Omar M. Moinuddin, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Dr. Moinuddin developed an early aptitude for biology and a passion for community service laying the foundation for a career in medicine. He went on to attend Loyola University Chicago, where he graduated Magna cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
He received his medical degree from the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. His dedication to research earned him the prestigious International Retinal Research Foundation Scholarship through which he conducted translational research on retinal neuroprotection at the University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Eye Center, one of the nation's premier academic eye centers.
Dr. Moinuddin remained at the University of Michigan to complete his internship and residency in ophthalmology. During his training he received multiple awards for outstanding patient care, as well as academic and research contributions to the field of ophthalmology and visual science. Dr. Moinuddin was then selected to complete his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Associated Retinal Consultants/William Beaumont Hospital, one of the top ranked and most highly regarded retinal training programs in the world.
Dr. Moinuddin specializes in the medical treatment of diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and vascular disease, age-related macular degeneration, and disorders of the macula and choroid. He is highly skilled in the surgical management of all forms of retinal detachment, retinal tears, macular hole, epiretinal membrane (macular pucker), and floaters. He also holds expertise in addressing complications from cataract surgery, including the removal of retained lens fragments and secondary intraocular lens implantation.
Dr. Moinuddin has co-authored several scientific publications and has been recognized as an invited speaker delivering podium presentations at retina conferences at both the national and international level. He has served as a co-investigator on numerous clinical trials advancing the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disease, and provides patients with the most current evidence-based care. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and Association for Research in Vision in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Moinuddin is committed to building close relationships with his patients, and providing compassionate, respectful, and expert medical and surgical retinal care. Outside of work, he is a Formula 1 enthusiast who enjoys all things automotive, staying active through running and fitness, and traveling.
